Annoyance

Hellow, its been a while since I've last typed my blog.

There's 2 weeks left before my semester 3 of Bachelor of Pharmacy semester 3 ends, i'm still not very satisfied with myself.

Studies aside, in our curriculum we have these number of hours that we need to complete as co-curricular activities. Since activities with hours are limited and its competitive, everyone needs to fight for a spot. And being a credit transfer student, I need to complete the hours earlier than the rest of the students. So I decided to join a major event to get a boost of hours to add in (because this system isn't really fair and committee members of events give the activity spaces to their friends first even though the credit transfer students needed it more badly than them).

I thought it would be fine handling the major event and being a committee of a club (it's pretty common around that people being this busy). Yeah right, what's different in my condition is that the club's president is pretty much an airhead who does not take responsibilities seriously and ignores important stuff, which gives me more burden on handling the club's affairs. So the whatever load I have dragged me down on handling the other event, which in turn affected the other committees of the other event to be in more of a mess.

I remembered there was this night before a test and I was staying up late doing things for the club because the president has been in his own sweet world enjoying whatever ignorance he has. Then I ended up having a headache the next day, went into the lab, cannot think straight, screwed all calculations up and screwed all the results up. Whats worse is that this is my favourite subject for the semester. Imagine being one of the lowest scorers in class.

Other than that I'm also falling back in studies.

God I hope he's happy, it's going to make me sound bad but yeah I hope karma hits him thrice as hard.

So whoever is reading this, some of you guys might be aware of it already, but however, do not think that ignorance is ok for others. It might be the Malaysian teenage culture to say "aiyah, cincailah, sure can one!" at other people's face, however given certain situations, it would be more mature to be considerate of what your actions might bring onto others. It may not only affect directly but also indirectly trigger up a chain of worsening events for others. (Or just check out what the butterfly effect means if you do not get what I mean.)

小小检讨（发泄）录

我是雪隆区第25届学海学生记者。

活动当年，真的很忙（忙到幼稚的我不介意把学业看轻），可是当时的我社交能力也不是很好。认识的人很多，结交到很近的有几个。是个成长的一年。

近来，我整理我那看起来像是打过一场战的房间，看到一本书。一打开：哇，字丑到！（没办法，当时都没有桌子写。）

现在就让我陈述下那本书里面记载的一些检讨录，再加上近来的故事。

新闻是趣味性的，狗咬人不是新闻，人咬狗才是新闻。当然，事件发生后当然要尽快有报道出来，不要拖延时间写，要不然那个人把一整只狗吃掉了怎么办？
（其实这一点，很多记者在学习中最初听到的就是这个人咬狗的例子了哈哈）
可是最近上网看到很多标题写得很夸张式的，可是写一半又不写一半，例如：
-这是今年最XX的YY！！不看你就out了！
-*某事情发生*姐妹们看了都惊讶，原来……
之类的标题，很吸引人对吧？结果开进去才不是类似我平时上课都可以看到的那些疯狂学生一样在玩的故事罢了。

投稿不用放优美句子，你又不是在写作文，别人语文能力不太好看不懂怎么办，新闻不用读了。
今天我才看了电视广播来，是悲伤新闻，新闻主持人却用了“他们就有了非常痛苦噩梦一般地生活”、“他们深深的……”之类的。好吧，悲剧发生，伤心是当然的，可是你怎么知道他们经过了什么啊？连记者也未必知道，更何况是新闻主播。（其实讲真，不这么说，新闻主播也没有话可以说了）

你的责任很大，不，其实每个人在社会上的责任很大。
有人负责制造问题，有人负责发现问题，有人负责报道问题，有人负责解决问题，有人负责八卦问题。
由于负责报道问题的人拥有把问题向社会广播的责任，所以负责八卦问题的人也要有责任传送正确的资料。
你知道那些媒体的官方推特不是很喜欢用蓝色的小鸟报告新闻的吗？有时候他们是看到别人推一些“故事”，没有经过事实的确认，它们也将“假故事”re-推。（这是真的从记者那里打听来的。）我也不知道后果怎么样，就只是听说它们丢脸了一阵子。以正式媒体的账户丢脸了一阵子，严重过那些在面子书上一直在share假消息的小朋友很多倍。

就像你走街时不喜欢别人一个人霸占两个人的走廊，还走到向僵尸一样慢的。采访人家时我们也不可以站在别人店门口。
不要打扰别人做生意，也不要打扰我买冰淇凌。

要表现的像个专业人士，就得做好准备，采访前寻找资料，准备好问题。难道你考试前感不读好书？考场够冷了，遇到难题等下又要冷场怎么办？
这个我发现到我在上大学的路程中没有做好的一点……

礼貌是金。“请”、“谢谢”、“不好意思”、“打扰了”不是小学道德课本说了就算的字眼。
采访常用的字眼，也是现实生活中必要的素养。
近来听朋友说她在排队等火车时，前面有一对情侣。火车来了，她要上车，那对情侣却在那里呆呆，她就走上车。忽然，那对情侣的男方就撞了我朋友，并忽然走在她前面，急着上车。等到我朋友踏上车的一步，车门就关了，打到我朋友的肩膀，而且很痛。然后那情侣什么也没说。好吧，可能他们不知道火车的门在关起来的时候撞到我朋友，可是上车前特地撞人不可能不知道的吧？
可能那对情侣真的忘了基本礼貌吧？反正我们SPM的道德考试不是很不逻辑的吗？:P

就算办事情和别人不同组，不要不把别的组放在眼里，看到有问题的也要提醒。
这个我到处可以感觉得到，说实话我认为办在学校的活动筹委会，没有一个办的比学记队好。（外面的活动我不说，那些是另一个水准。）以前和学记办活动，就算你是负责这个department的，可是通过开会还有在面子书的group讨论，我们都知道别的department在做什么。
说说下我在学校遇到的种种事，同样也是一群学生办活动。不是因为能力，却是因为同学之间的玩而被选出来的主席，这我相信很多地方也会遇到，我不多说。然后我们这些“小兵仔”从他们讨论活动到活动前一两个星期，我们都不知道他们的发展。还得等到活动当天才知道流程表。我们就像真的小兵仔一样了，不用知道重要事，只要临场发挥就是了，来活动的小朋友问问题，我们也不知道要怎么给一个正确的答案。
还有一个，真的是没有想到他们会这样做。在活动高潮的晚上，在前面的主持人和他亲密的几位筹委会在台上自high。（过后有没有人告诉他们那些来活动的人有几blur我也不知道。）然后活动结束后，高层们就自己在那里认为goodjob，在社交媒体上发表他们的感谢。
这也不能怪他们啦，谁叫我（或是比较有能力的人）当时没有自愿当高层……

我仍然是个在学习的路程中，以上的发表并未代表我是个很厉害的人，一定有解决问题。
不过它们确实从我的角度看到的现实，是个不错的提醒，不要如何对待别人。

Blogging in a lecture

Hi I'm in class now.

Is this my first post after I have started uni? I think so...

A pharmaceutics lecture, and I have my laptop with me. Because I forgot was too busy to print the slides, therefore I'm online now (our slides are uploaded online).

The lecture now is about filters, and I see some very pretty filters, not Instagram filters, but filters like the picture below.

Ok that is not the exactly the filter that is being mentioned in the lecture, but rather the pretty ones look like this:

Sintered Glass Filter

Here's a confession: I never knew that glass wool is made of glass fibres, all these while I thought they were special cotton wools with some magical connection with silicon dioxide.

Something new I learnt from this lecture: filter aids exists. And they are so cool because they act like enzymes by increasing the activity of the filtration!

Ok maybe you don't need to totally understand this picture but I think it should be pretty self-explanatory, all we need to see in summary is the increase of the white arrows.

Of course, there are various types of this magical aids, here's a list:

}Kieselguhr

}It is the most commonly used filter aid, mineral derived from ancient seabed

}Addition of just 0.1% to a slurry containing 20% solid can increase the filtration rate about 5 times

}Talc

}Siliceous earth or clays – perlite is a volcanic mineral

}Charcoals

}Chalk

}Asbestoses

}Magnesium carbonate etc. 

The lecturer wants us to memorize at least 3 of these, but I like the first name, and it sounds very canggih-y so I think I must memorize that.

Me: What is Kieselghur?
Wikipedia: Diatomaceous earth/ˌdaɪ.ətəˌmeɪʃəs ˈɜrθ/, also known as D.E.,diatomite, or kieselgur/kieselguhr, is a naturally occurring, soft, siliceous sedimentary rock that is easily crumbled into a fine white to off-white powder.

Oooooh powder.... and I see "siliceous" sedimentary rock.... I think I'll be studying about glass for quite some time now.

I'm pretty sure a solid (siliceous sedimentary) rock has all these properties. Well maybe except for the specific gravity, it's specific to certain mediums I guess.

Google: "Specific gravity is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density (mass of the same unit volume) of a reference substance."

We already have enough equations for Physical Pharmacy module and there's this Darcy's equation for rate of filtration. Here's how it looks like:

I'm not going to explain it here but you are welcomed to think of me as some very smart-in-maths/physics student. :)))

Here's another new thingy, there's something known as filter candles!

Yeah I wish they look like that.

}Filter candles are used for bacterial filtration and sterilization of some pharmaceutical preparations

The candles are made of unglazed porous porcelain or Kieselghur.

(Lecture note: equipment might cost around RM100, but a candle might only cost RM75)

(Canggih apparatus must be made of canggih names.)

There are also other equipment for filtration such as filter press, sintered filters, meta filters, and filter leaf.

And no you don't just pluck a leaf out of a tree to filter bacteria.

I think it's not hard right, now does a filter leaf remind you chlorophyll and sunlight the gold leaf you learnt in Physics class? So technical....

"Wait what?"

Moral of the conversation: Physics is everywhere, you can't escape it, you just don't link it.

Ok there's one more physic-y filter, but please bear with this post I promise it is the last one.

They look like rings but please don't propose to me with that, unless you think that I am a highly viscous liquid, syrups, elixirs, oils, injectibles or insulin.

(But I will still smack you,)

At the end of the lecture I did not know if I had listened to an hour of home economics or pharmaceutics.

But anyway, as technical as they may seem, they are used in the pharmaceutical industry.
